DERBY day at Latham Park sees Aberystwyth Town in town on Sunday, in a crunch Welsh Premier clash (2pm).
Last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Haverfordwest County left Newtown in ninth position with 11 points, but they are within striking distance of an Aberystwyth Town side just five points clear in fourth.
“There are more points separating first and second, than second and bottom of the table,” said assistant manager Lee Williams. “It is still very tight.”
“The lads played well against County last week, but we tired toward the end and perhaps a few of the players felt the midweek display against Airbus caught up with them.
“It will be a tough game against Aberystwyth, who perhaps have under-performed after last season, but we know they will come here with the intention of winning.
“We approach each game with the intention of winning but at the end of the day we must be realistic and take each game as it comes.”
Newtown will be stretched again without the suspended Dave Swanick and Chris Hartland.
Meanwhile ex-Aberystwyth Town ace Gavin Cadwallader is facing a race against time to face his former employers after limping off against County last week.
