12 casualties after toxic vapour released at Saltney factory

A TOXIC vapour has been released at a factory causing a dozen casualties.

A total of 12 people have inhaled chemicals at the English Provender site on River Lane, Saltney earlier today.

It is believed that two cleaning agents were mixed at the site, leading to the release of the toxic substance.

Firefighters, ambulance crews were seen on site after the incident, which took place at around 9.55am.

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "Crews from Chester, Deeside, Wrexham and Buckley, the Incident Response Unit from Deeside and the Environmental Protection Unit from Wrexham are currently in attendance at a chemical incident at a factory on River Lane Industrial Estate, Saltney.

"North Wales Fire and Rescue Service has been working closely with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and Countess of Chester Hospital and have decontaminated a number of casualties as a precaution."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 9.34am today, Wednesday April 9, to an incident at a commercial property on River Lane Industrial Estate, Saltney.

"We sent two rapid response vehicles and four emergency ambulances to the scene, where 12 people required treatment.

"Of the 12, two people have been taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital in a stable condition, two people have been discharged at scene and eight people remain at scene."
