A WOMAN who has fought against a life-threatening illness is holding a ball to raise money for other cancer suffers.

Sally O’Reilly, of Dee Lane, Upton, Chester, was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2006 after which she endured a harrowing battle with the potentially fatal disease.

Sally’s devoted husband Gary told the Leader: “By the grace of God Sally was lucky enough to achieve remission after initial hospital treatment under the watchful eye of Dr Edwin Lee and his wonderful team at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

“Along with intense chemotherapy followed by chemotherapy maintenance treatment which was completed in September 2008, Sally continues to enjoy good health.

“Sally recognises how lucky she has been with her treatment and as part of the after care it is essential that she and I give something back and continue to raise awareness of leukaemia and continued fundraising for the leukaemia research fund.”

The annual leukaemia and lymphoma charity auction and dinner will take place on Friday, April 23, at 7.30pm at Chester Racecourse, marking the 50th anniversary of the Leukaemia Research Fund.

The charity, which has raised more than £300 million for research into leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, aims to help people like Sally who have been struck by blood cancers.

During the fundraising evening, which will be hosted by Vince Earl, a number of auction lots will be sold off, including signed football shirts, a September race day package from Chester Racecourse and a voucher for an unlimited dining experience at Upstairs at the Grill on Watergate Street.

The star auction lot, which has been donated by Deva Travel, Chester is a three-night bed and breakfast stay in a superior double sea view room at the Four Seasons Hotel, Cyprus.

There will also be a raffle with prizes from Tony and Guy and a meal for two at the Blackhouse Grill, Chester.

Dinner tickets are £40 which includes a reception drink, a three-course dinner, coffee, chocolates and entertainment.

Gary added: “This will be our final dinner and auction as next year we plan to do a charity ‘It’s A Knock Out!’ so please support  and attend this wonderful evening.”
