A MOTHER has paid tribute to her “fantastic son” who was killed in a horrific car crash.

Kieran Arnold, 21, of Cymau, on the Flintshire-Wrexham border, died at the scene after a collision on the A541 at Pontblyddyn on Monday.

Floral tributes were laid at the roadside by family and friends yesterday.

Kieran was a keen bodybuilder who trained regularly at Valhalla Gym on the Rhosddu Industrial Estate in Wrexham.

His mother, Donna, said in a statement: “Kieran was a fantastic son to David and me and a loving big brother to Aaron, eight and Steffan, six.

“Kieran was a keen bodybuilder who enjoyed all sorts of sports, including football and generally keeping fit.

“He was well thought of within his work as a plumber and was a hard-working lad with drive and ambition and aspired to start his own business.

“Kieran was a handsome young man who spent most of his time with his long-term girlfriend, Lizzie.

“David and I extend our deepest thanks to all our family and friends for their help and support throughout this devastating event.”

The owner of Valhalla gym, Craig Hulme, paid tribute to Mr Arnold.

He said: “He was a really nice young lad who enjoyed his training.

“He was a quiet man. Given time he would have been a very good bodybuilder.”

Mr Arnold is understood to have previously attended Ysgol Clywedog, Wrexham and most recently worked for the drainage company, Dyno Rod.

North Wales East and Central coroner John Gittins confirmed the death had been reported to him.

A Home Office post-mortem examination is due to be carried out on this morning.

“I will be able to open an inquest once the results of the post mortem are reported to me,” Mr Gittins said.

A spokesman for Welsh Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 4.55pm on Monday to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A541 at Pontblyddyn.

“We sent two emergency ambulances to the scene and a rapid response vehicle.

“A man was declared dead at the scene.”

North Wales Police yesterday said a 47-year-old local man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in police custody awaiting questioning.

They are appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Insp Martin Best of the North Wales Police roads policing unit said “At about 5pm on Monday a road traffic collision took place on the A541 between Pontblyddyn and Caergwrle between a silver Land Rover Discovery and white and orange Ford Transit Van in which a local man tragically sustained fatal injuries.

“We are renewing our appeal for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or has any information concerning it, to contact PC Mark Lightfoot at the roads policing unit by phoning 101 and quote reference RC13095250.”
