THE Welsh National Sheepdog Trials are being held in Radnorshire for the first time since 1985.

They will be taking place at Bryn Thomas Farm, Penybont, near Llandrindod Wells. on August 15, 16 and 17.

This prestigious event will see 150 of the finest sheepdogs and handlers competing over three days to select the Welsh team to go forward to compete against England, Ireland and Scotland at the International Trials at Stoneleigh in September.

The Saturday of the event will see the top three dogs out of the 15 selected do battle in a run-off to decide the Welsh National Champion.

Fundraising events for the trial have been ongoing since June 2011 with a cabaret night, male voice choir concert, Country and Western nights and sheepdog trials, culminating in a grand raffle being drawn on August 17.

Hosted by Glyn Owen, the trials will see a unique family rivalry at the event with grandfather Glyn, son Mark and grandson Ben all vying for a place in the Welsh team.

There will be a variety of entertainment, trade stands, a caravan site and catering.
