Greens push Sully all the way in cup tie

CARNO’S hopes of a major semi-final were left in tatters as Sully Sports prevailed in extra time in the re-arranged cup match.

Seven days previously the South Wales Alliance side were 1-0 up when the referee was forced to abandon the game at Ty Brith due to a waterlogged pitch, with 20 minutes remaining.

This time around, with the game switched to the 3G surface at Latham Park, the visiting side made no mistake in getting the job done, but they left it until extra time to do so.

It was the Spar Mid Wales League side who dominated early on, with the visiting keeper thwarting Ger Jones and Steve Jones.

Both sides cancelled each other out in the second period with chances at a minimum, but the drama was saved until extra time.

A 25 yard strike from Will Gale was tipped onto the post by keeper Chris Brown, but the ball re-bounded off the stopper’s back and into the net.

Like in the first game Carno were reduced to 10 men as Steve Jones was sent off for a second booking.

Peter Rees and Gregg Brown came close to a late equaliser but Andrew Townsend broke away and finished the tie with five minutes left to set up a semi-final clash with Rhostyllen.
