DEAN KEATES  is set to complete the signing of a new striker on Monday.

The frontman has had his contract terminated by his club and having agreed to sign for Wrexham, will put pen to paper after the weekend.

Keates, linked with a number of strikers including Lincoln City’s Matty Rhead and Scott Boden of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, allayed fears that the deal had fallen through.

“It is as good as it can be and he will be with us on Monday,” said Keates.

“Everything is in place and sorted. He has got a young family and there were things that needed sorting out on that side.

“It is not just a case of a player coming into the football club, he is bringing the family into a new area and we have to make sure everything was right for his family.”

Another striker, who trained with Wrexham last season, has joined on trial and took part in Wednesday’s team bonding exercise when the Reds squad went white water rafting.

The unnamed frontman will feature in Monday’s opening pre-season friendly against Lex at Stansty Park, and could be joined by another trialist.

“We had him in last season and he did really well,” added Keates.

“We saw enough to think we were going to have a look at him long term, it was always a case that we would get him back in during pre-season.

“We didn’t get a chance to get him in a game last season and he will be joining us for the next few weeks.

“He will be playing against Lex and Cefn Druids and will be joining us in Portugal.

“He didn’t do bad for his first day. He got a four mile run and he was smack bang at the front of the group, and nearly got hit white water rafting!”
