Games gold medalist AJ is a sporting inspiration for children at Prestatyn's Ysgol Penmorfa

CHILDREN at a primary school enjoyed a sponsored day with an Invictus Games gold medalist.

A J Pingram, who on gold as a member of the Great Britain team that triumphed in the games in London in 2014, visited of Ysgol Penmorfa in Prestatyn.

The whole school took part in the sponsored event, which raised money for sports equipment for the school.

The school’s bronze young ambassadors helped to organise the event and encourage the younger children.

The pupils participated in fitness activities throughout the morning – followed by an talk by the special visitor about his sporting journey.

Pingram was a professional hockey player with the Royal Navy before a freak accident in 200 in which he permanently damaged both of his ankles

There was a question-and-answer session at the end where the children were invited to ask their guest about his sporting career.

Three signed basketballs were awarded to the children who asked the best questions.
